HELENA 鈥?Scandinavian Designs Furniture, a new furniture store in Helena, will open up this Saturday, April 1.Located off N Montana Ave, in the building that once held Helenas Macys, Scandinavian Designs Furniture is setting up shop. The store offers mid-century modern, contemporary, and Scandinavian rustic furniture in their new 50,000 square stanley cup feet of gallery space. MTN was also told that a lot of the stores furniture is customizable.The company has stores throughout the United States. And they decided to set up shop in Montana starting here in Helena because they saw the demand for a unique furniture store. Yeah, it is our first store in Montana. We really saw a desire for this kind of a really differentiated shopping experience in furniture here. After 27 years of business, Eklunds Fine Furniture in downtown Great Falls will be shutting its doors permanently.Owner Cal Eklund told MTN News they have sold the building, but will continue to sell appliances at their store on Central Avenue West.The location that is closing was the Eklund family s first purchase in Great Falls. Cal s grandfather moved from Barber, Montana, and opened a tire shop at the location.Over the next 80 years, the Eklund Building housed a variety of businesses, including a restaurant an salomon d a night club called The Gold Rush. The Eklund Bu converse ilding housed a variety of businesses, including a night club called The Gold Rush They sold everything from bikes and boats to guns and insurance before the location became a furniture retailer. This was our first store and a lot of good memories here, he said. Our whole family used to put bicycles together here when I was a little kid. A Lot of great memories, a little bittersweet because it was something that means alot to our family.
