Amy Wright, co-founder of Bitty and Beau s Coffee, was among the first business owners to secure a Paycheck Protection Program loan through the U.S. government s $350 billion relief program for small employers. She and her husband founded the Wilmington, North Carolina-based company four years ago to create employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and it now has 120 employees across four states. Wright spoke with CBS stanley cup MoneyWatch about her experience applying for the federal loan and what it means for her business. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. Our two youngest children, Bitty and Beau, both have Down syndrome, and one of the obstacles that people with disabilities face is meaningful employment. We didn t want our kids joining the ranks of the unemployed, so we started a business to create jobs for people with disabilities. Louisiana hasn t seen a surge in voter registrations in the days since thousands of convicted felons saw their voting rights restored.Data from the secretary of state s office shows no uptick in the number of felons who registered to vote in February compared to the number who signed up in March. Seventy-eight felons had their voting rights reinstated in February, compared to 68 in March.On March 1, an estimated 36,000 more felons were eligible to vote under a new law that allowed voter r adidas campus eg stanley cup istration for people on probation or parole for a felony if they haven t been incarcerated at least five years. The true test of interest may come as the Oct. 12 statewide election nears. The deadline to register to vote in that election is in September.
